The Starry Night is a
famous painting by Vincent Van Gogh painted in June 1889. It is an oil on
canvas and it belongs to postimpressionism. In this painting we can see the
view from the east-facing window of the room of the painter, just before
sunrise, with the addition of a village.
The colours that
appear in this painting are shades of blue, black and brown and all shades of
white, cream, yellow and orange. Van Gogh uses in this painting organic shapes
like swirling wind, a black tree, a lot of stars, the moon and rolling hills.
In this painting there are some parts larger than others, for example, the big
black tree stands out from the small village set near the bottom. We can also
see the village with buildings with just enough light to be noticed, and other
buildings, like the church, that are dark. However, the real action is what
there are above the town, where the moon and stars light up the sky. Light
moves across the sky, defeating the dark sky wherever it is found.
In my opinion, it is a
really masterpiece. I love this painting because I love the night and
particularly here, because it is a mixture of colours and light.
